Good deal

If you've been on We Like It Raw it recently, you've probably noticed a new feature called "Deal of the Week." Now, I don't see myself posting a bargain on a regular basis, but it might be fun to mention one from time to time.

Trader Joe's, one of my favorite places to shop, is known for its good deals, like this guacamole kit I picked up for just $2.69. It contains two large avocados, two tomatoes, a lime, a jalapeƱo pepper, two little onions and some fresh garlic. You have everything you need (although I usually add a little sea salt and pepper, and sometimes some cumin and cilantro) to make a yummy bowl of fresh guacamole at a reasonable price.

It's very convenient. I just brought this along to our family Easter celebration at my mom's house on Sunday, as a raw offering I knew would go over well even with my "cooked" relatives. The bowl was cleaned out pretty quickly.

Speaking of our Easter celebration, we had a lot of fun hunting for eggs that day, and when I say "we," I'm talking about the adults (although I'm sure the kids had fun, too).

The little ones were so anxious to start the hunt that they hid them first for the grownups. It was so funny to be kids again, at least for a little while, as we scurried around the yard racing to get the most eggs. I think one of my cousins even tackled his brother for one. Now that's what I call competitive. At least no one got hurt.

I hope you enjoyed your holiday just as much. Drop me a comment and let me know how you spent yours.

What a great idea! I cannot wait to go to the states and go to a Trader Joe's again! I love that place.

I think that would be a fun idea as a housewarming gift or something, wrap it in a pretty teatowel and a basket with a fun bowl to put it in.

TJ's is great! their organic bananas are only $0.29/lb. UNHEARD OF! And if you're not picky if they're organic or not, their conventional bananas are $0.19/lb.

I also pick up a bunch of their zucchini from time to time b/c it's another bargin.

OMG, that is so cheap! No trader joe's here in Tampa. :(
We went to an Easter brunch at a friends house and brought a fruit salad and a raw Mamey pie. Mmmmmm.
The only kid there was our friends' son, Jake for the egg hunt (he is three years old). So, there were seven adults all exitedly coaxing him to the hidden eggs, while he spun in circles saying where, where. It was hilarious. The eggs had little toy dinosaurs inside, which he loved.

I LOVE Trader Joes, I sooo wish I had one where I live! Every time my Mom & Dad in law go to VA they stock up on all of my favorite goodies. I'm so jealous you have one!

Charrisa, that's a great idea.

Rosie, I buy a lot of bananas and zucchini from there, too.

Peggy and Curtis, I'm sorry you don't have a Trader Joe's in Tampa, but I bet you're having warmer weather. I'd take that any day.

Thanks for sharing your Easter. Jake sounds adorable. What's Mamey pie?

Jenny, I'm always learning something new from you. What do you put in your nut-free peanut butter cups?

Melinda, at least you have someone to help you stock up. I always try to look on the bright side :-)

You're welcome, Michelle. Don't forget to pick one up.

Mamey is a tropical fruit shaped like a football and brown on the outside. The inside flesh is a dark orange color and so sweet. It tastes like sweet potatoes or pumpkin, so we like to make a pie with it. It is so sweet that all you have to do is blend it with the pumpkin pie spices and make a crust. Voila.

The fruit is famous in latin america as a milkshake ingredient. And I must say with fresh pressed coconut milk, it is heaven.

Sounds like you had fun :)
I had a blast taking pics of the girls (nieces) run around and find eggs. They are just at the cutest age- 5 and 3!

I miss Trader Joe's. We do not have them in Kansas. There are plenty of places to get good food, organic food, and healthy food, but there's nothing here like the deals at TJ's!

So, that's what a mamey is. I need to keep a lookout for one :-)

Rebekah, sometimes I think kids make the holidays more fun.

trihardist, I know how you feel about missing Trader Joe's. I wouldn't want to move too far away from one.
